Students Reminded to Carefully Monitor Credit Completion for Required Content Areas
Students and parents should carefully review TCAPS’ graduation requirements for their planned year of graduation. The Michigan Merit Curriculum requires a specific number of credits in content areas of Math, English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Visual Performing & Applied Arts, and Physical Education.
In order to earn credits in content areas, students must successfully complete specific courses noted in the following chart. It is important that students and parents continue to monitor successful completion of required credits by content area because Michigan’s new graduation requirements do not allow for extensive class substitution across content areas. Students who fail a course will need to repeat the same content to earn credits regardless of whether the student has accumulated the total number of credits required for graduation.

Michigan Personal Curriculum
State of Michigan law provides an option for students to modify the Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC) requirements in order to: Go beyond the academic credit requirements by adding more math, science, English language arts, or world language credits, modify the mathematics requirement, modify if necessary, the credit requirements of a student with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), or modify credit requirements for a student who transfers from an out of state or from a nonpublic school and is unable to meet the MMC requirements.

TCAPS Veteran Diploma Program
Traverse City Area Public Schools is proud to offer the opportunity for Veterans to receive their high school diploma and be part of the 2024 graduation ceremonies.
Under Public Act 181 of 2001 and Public Act 55 of 2014, TCAPS Board of Education can award high school diplomas to WWII, Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era Veterans in recognition of their service and sacrifice. WWII Veterans who left high school between December 16, 1940 and December 31, 1946, Korean War Veterans who left high school between June 27, 1950 and January 31, 1955 for immediate military service, and Veterans of the Vietnam Era drafted or enlisted between February 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975 and did not subsequently receive a high school degree, may be eligible to apply for a diploma. Family members may apply on behalf of a living or deceased Veteran.
